Lesley Jones

The Keep Wales Tidy team is led by Chief Executive and environmental leader Lesley Jones.

Lesley has been CEO since 2010, and in that time, she has overseen the successful implementation of a number of environmental programmes, all of which have had a positive and important impact on life in Wales.

In 2012, Lesley joined the Board of global, membership-based NGO the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and was elected as FEE’s first female president in September 2016. FEE was established in 1981 to promote sustainable development through environmental education and Keep Wales Tidy is the member for Wales. Under Lesley’s leadership, FEE programmes including Eco-Schools, Blue Flag and Green Key (for tourism) have grown both globally and across Wales.

During this time, Keep Wales Tidy has also successfully championed the development of initiatives to create biodiverse green space including Green Flag for Parks, Local Places for Nature, Long Forest, Tiny Forest and the recently launched, and ambitious Caru Cymru programme.

Caru Cymru, set up to eradicate litter and waste, is a clear indication of the type of work which Lesley is passionate about.  The programmes has been developed to pull the public, private, third sector and community groups together across Wales, and create a passionate movement to bring about positive change for the environment and the people of Wales.

Lesley has led from the front in a number of third sector organisations for most of her career.  Before joining Keep Wales Tidy, she worked for the Wales Co-operative Centre, leading on the development of credit unions in Wales, before becoming Deputy Chief Executive managing initiatives that supported social enterprise, financial and digital inclusion.

Lesley has continued to demonstrate her commitment to public service, serving on several Boards including a public appointee on the Welsh Government’s Financial Inclusion Advisory Group, a member of Co-operatives UK New Ventures Panel and as Chair of Charter Housing in Newport.

When not working to save the environment, Lesley loves spending time with her family, visiting new places and walking in the many green spaces around her Cardiff home with her beloved dog Ruby.
