We regularly promote Litter Picking Hubs in the media, on the Keep Wales Tidy website and social media channels. We will always direct people to our online map which displays the opening hours and contact details for all our Litter Picking Hubs.

Did you know, tens of thousands of social media posts are sent every second? This can make it difficult to stand out. Here are a few tips to help ensure people stop and click on your posts.
Be visual. Posts that include photos and videos always perform better than those without. Even simple things like before and after groups can be a really effective But please don’t forget that consent must be gathered before sharing anyone’s image.

Hashtags act as labels, grouping together conversations, which allows people to find similar content. Most popular on X and Instagram, hashtags are a great way of connecting with a wider audience. Don’t forget to use #CaruCymru (a Welsh phrase meaning ‘Love Wales’) for all your Litter Picking Hub activities.
Tag relevant accounts. All social media channels give the option to tag other accounts in your posts. By doing so, you can increase the reach your posts have through exposure to those channels’ followers. Please remember to tag Keep Wales Tidy and your local project officer and we’ll do our best to share your activities.
Emojis are an easy way to convey feelings. Including up to three emojis will help give your posts personality.
Get to know your audience. Every channel enables you to see how your posts are performing. By regularly looking at the analytics or insights you can start to develop a better understanding of who you’re talking to, when they’re online and what posts they’re enjoying the most.
Learn from others. Follow or like other Litter Picking Hubs! Take inspiration from their content and engage with their posts. This will help with your own following by alerting individuals with similar interests to your channels.
Encourage your borrowers to get involved in posting about your Hub. You could ask for group shots, videos of the litter pick, or even before and after shots. It’ll help demonstrate the Hub in action and show your community what is being collected.
It may seem obvious, but local media (newspapers, websites and broadcast channels) want good local stories, or a local angle on a national story, especially with a human interest. Luckily Litter Picking Hubs provide great content!
This goes far beyond launching your Hub. You could celebrate reaching a particular milestone, such as the hundredth clean-up; you could highlight historical litter that’s been found; you could showcase your regular borrowers or ‘Hub heroes’; or you could do some joint publicity with a local business using your Hub – they may even be able to offer in kind support.

Most local newspapers will provide contact details for journalists on their websites or Facebook pages. You can also submit stories directly on a lot of online news sites, such as In Your Area.
