Air pollution is any emission resulting from human activity.

The pollutants can come from a range of sources and can accumulate to toxic levels which can have a severe impact on our quality of life and our health. In some areas of Wales, air pollution has far exceeded what is considered to be ‘safe’ limits.

It is now estimated that air pollution contributes to 2,000 deaths in Wales each year – 6% of all deaths.

Tackling air quality will require a collaborative approach which considers not just policy interventions but the promotion of more sustainable lifestyles, working and commuter choices. One of the priorities must be to raise awareness of this invisible public health concern and collaboration on key messages from multiple sectors of government, business and society.
