Become a judge!

This is an exciting opportunity to join Green Flag Award Wales’ team of judges.​

You’ll be part of a group of 100 volunteers spread across Wales, responsible for upholding the integrity of the scheme by maintaining consistency of judging and advocating for high quality green space for all.

If you enjoy visiting green spaces, would like to share your expertise with and learn from other green space managers and want to be part of a dedicated volunteer team working to create and maintain a beautiful Wales, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Key information

This is a voluntary position with travel expenses paid.

Time commitment:

  • Year 1
    • Training course: mix of online and one in-person session (approx. 2 days starting in January 2026)
      Judging two sites in first year (4 days April-May 2026)
  • Ongoing
    • Minimum of one site per year, preferably two (2-4 days per year during April and May)

Summary of duties

  • Assess and judge allocated sites within specified timeframes​​
  • Liaise with co-judges and applicants​
  • Comply with the Partnership’s procedures and policies at all times

Skills and experience

There are no specific qualification requirements for this position but you would need relevant experience in either a paid or voluntary capacity, as specified below:

*Able to demonstrate a good breadth of knowledge of the parks and green space sector​
Experience of writing or working with park or green space management plans​
Excellent written and oral communication skills​

Excellent understanding of community group organisation and operation​
