Community Group Resilience Award

This new award recognises community groups that have successfully improved their financial sustainability and long-term resilience.

With thanks to our category sponsor, The Moondance Foundation

About the award

We want to hear from community groups who have reduced their reliance on external grant funding by, for example, running successful income generation initiatives, upskilling group members and volunteers or using innovative ways to engage with their communities to ensure financial sustainability and long-term resilience.

Nominations could include:

  • Groups who make and sell their own products. For example, homemade compost and charcoal, apple juice from an orchard, or surplus food from an allotment.
  • Groups who collect and sell unwanted items, such as scrap metal or clothing that can be reused.
  • Groups who charge for training or other services like wreath-making or holiday activity sessions.
  • Groups that have upskilled members and volunteers to benefit from new opportunities and improve resilience
  • Groups that have run successful fundraising initiatives such as lotteries, membership schemes, crowd-funding campaigns and corporate partnerships.

All examples of income generation and improved resilience are welcome.

Required information

This category is open to any community group, school, CIC or charity.

Judges will be looking for the following information:

  • What income generation activities have the group run to improve their financial sustainability and resilience? Please list anything you can think of.
  • Which activity has been the most successful and why?
  • Approximately how much income have these activities generated, and what percentage of the group’s total annual income does this represent?
  • What have been the main benefits? How has the work helped the group with its long-term sustainability?
  • What challenges have the group faced along the way and how have they overcome them?
  • What has the group learned from this experience and what advice would they give to other groups?
  • What are the group’s long-term plans?

Please include video and / or photographic evidence of activities where possible.
