Nature in the Community Award

Did you know, one in six species in Wales is under threat? It’s an alarming statistic, but the good news is there are thousands of people across Wales who are determined to stop nature’s decline and bring biodiversity back to our communities.

This award celebrates projects that give nature a helping hand while connecting people with the natural world.

With thanks to our category sponsor, Transport for Wales.

About the award

Judges are seeking initiatives that create or manage habitats, protect native species, and offer communities opportunities to experience and learn about nature’s importance. We want to see how nominees are helping nature thrive and inspiring a deeper connection to it.

Nominations could include:

  • A community group creating habitats with new wildflower meadows or hedges.
  • A school planting an orchard open to the local community.
  • An organisation improving their land management practices to benefit people and pollinators. This might involve changing mowing regimes and putting signage in place to raise awareness.

Required information

This category is open to anybody that has improved nature for community benefit.

For the Nature in the Community Award, judges will be looking for the following information:

  • Which area(s) were selected to improve for nature and why?
  • What was the natural environment like before work started? What kind of plants and animals were there (if known)?
  • What was done to help nature in the area(s)?
  • How many people and organisations have been involved?
  • What changes have been noticed in the plants, animals, or overall natural environment as a result of these efforts?
  • How is the impact being measured?

Your application should include video and / or photographic evidence.
