About the award

Judges are looking for evidence of regular clean-up activities and visible improvements. They want to hear how the community was involved, the amount of litter and waste removed, any additional actions taken to prevent litter re-occurring, and the positive change the work has brought to volunteers and the wider area.

Nominations might include:

  • Regular litter picks in a neighbourhood by a community group.
  • Dedicated beach or river cleans to protect our coastline and waterways.
  • School or organisation clean-ups in their local surrounding areas.
  • Fly-tipping clearances.

Required information

This category is open to any organisation (e.g. schools, businesses, community groups) and / or individuals.

Nominations should include activities on publicly accessible land. Work by landowners to clear privately-owned land is not eligible.

For the Cleaner Communities Award, judges will be looking for the following information:

  • Which area(s) were selected for cleaning and why?
  • Who is responsible for delivering it?
  • How many activities have been carried out?
  • How many people / organisations have been involved?
  • Have any activities been carried out to prevent litter from returning?
  • What difference has the cleaning work made?

Your application should include video and / or photographic evidence.
