New Litter Picking Hub supports MP’s autumn beach clean

Share

Preseli Pembrokeshire MP, Stephen Crabb, took part in an autumn beach clean using equipment provided by Keep Wales Tidy’s newly launched litter picking hub in Fishguard on Monday 11 October.

The MP and his team, alongside Keep Wales Tidy West Wales Regional Manager Simon Preddy, took to the beach at Newgale, to gather litter left behind by both visitors and the sea.

Our growing network of hubs offer all the equipment you need to carry out a safe clean-up. This includes litter pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags and hoops (essential for keeping your bags open in breezy conditions!). They have been set up as part of our Caru Cymru initiative.

There are six community litter picking hubs in Pembrokeshire so far with equipment available for members of the community to access.

I am delighted to support this new initiative in Pembrokeshire and try out the new Litter Picking Hub for my autumn beach clean. The beaches have been incredibly busy over the summer months and it’s great to be able to have the opportunity to do my bit for our local environment by helping to keep our beaches clean. In just a few hours, my team and I had gathered up a lot of plastic and a range of old fishing tackle, shotgun cartridges and even shoes from the rocks and sand at Newgale. It does show that you don’t need much time to make a difference - and these hubs are all about making litter picking accessible for anyone at any time.

Stephen Crabb MP

The vision is for Caru Cymru to be interwoven into life in Wales, so it becomes second nature for everyone to do the right thing, from taking litter home and cleaning up after your dog, to recycling ‘on-the-go’, reusing and repairing. By everybody working together to create a clean and safe environment, we can build stronger, healthier communities and make a positive difference to our planet.
