Climate Challenge Cymru 2025 is here

We’re proud to launch a new innovation challenge for schools inspired by The Earthshot Prize.

As part of Climate Challenge Cymru, primary and secondary schools across Wales are invited to submit short videos capturing creative ideas to tackle one of five global challenges, or ‘Earthshots’: Build a Waste-Free World, Clean Our Air, Fix Our Climate, Protect and Restore Nature and Revive Our Oceans.

Run in partnership with Welsh Government, the finalists in each category will be invited to a prestigious awards ceremony in Cardiff in June 2025.

A national competition

Climate Challenge Cymru has run in mid and west Wales since 2021, led by First Minister and Member of Senedd for the region Eluned Morgan.

Our Eco-Schools Wales team are now managing the competition and are excited to open it up to schools around the country.

When I founded the Earthshot Climate Challenge Cymru project in 2021, I wanted to create something different - a platform that would unleash the creativity and passion of young people in Wales to tackle climate change. What makes this project special is that it connects local action with global thinking. Across Wales, we've seen incredible partnerships between schools and environmental organisations, where students aren't just learning about climate change - they're taking real everyday climate action.

First Minister Eluned Morgan

From classrooms to communities, young people in Wales are stepping up to the climate challenge. Through the Eco-Schools programme, I’ve seen first-hand the extraordinary work they do, and Climate Challenge Cymru is their opportunity to showcase their ideas on a global stage. I'm tremendously excited to see the solutions they come up with, and the Eco-Schools team at Keep Wales Tidy are there to support them every step of the way.

Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive

At The Earthshot Prize, we believe in the power of young people’s creativity to make a difference to the world and are committed to encouraging future generations of Earthshot winners! It’s fantastic to see this competition call on young people in Wales to act and celebrate those who are already working to change their environment for the better. We can’t wait to see the videos, good luck to everyone taking part!

Chief Executive, The Earthshot Prize
