Share

In addition to awarding Blue Flag sites, Blue Flag International hold an annual best practice competition and submissions are judged by the international jury. The themes of the 2021 competition were Climate Change, Biodiversity and Pollution and the jury were impressed by Project Seagrass in Dale, Pembrokeshire for their climate change tackling activities.

The Seagrass Ocean Rescue aims to restore seagrass meadows in Wales which has huge benefits such as improving water filtration and capturing carbon 30 times faster than forests.

Project Seagrass are thrilled to have won the Climate Change category in the Blue Flag Best Practice Competition and for our restoration work to be recognised in this way. During the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration our focus is not only on restoring seagrass meadows but also to revive the marine wildlife that relies on them. Nature-based solutions such as this enhance the diversity of life in our oceans leading to a healthier and more resilient ocean ecosystem. Blue Flag do fantastic work to bring positive change to our coastlines and we are delighted they have acknowledged our work to do the same.
