The Great Big School Clean hits big!

The Great Big School Clean has now come to an end. We’d like to say a massive thank you for such a great turnout of engaged schools, that came together to make a big difference across the country.

Well over 200 schools registered, with classes all over Wales getting involved in clean-ups far and wide.

Over 20 Welsh Schools also joined in with Eco-Schools Scotland’s Live Litter and Waste Lesson on the 21 March. Many schools have got in touch, sharing how much the lesson made them think about the situation around litter and waste.

170 classes also joined Keep Britain Tidy and Keep Scotland Beautiful for a live assembly where eco-journalist and author Sarah Roberts held a live reading her new book, Somebody Crunched Colin.

According to a recent survey carried out by Keep Britain Tidy. It’s estimated that 60% of children and young people feel happier when taking eco action.

Seeing schools rallying together across Wales has been incredibly encouraging, with children relishing the opportunity to get stuck in.

“Since completing the litter pick my class has started a campaign to reduce the cigarette litter dropped in the streets around our school. They are more aware of the litter they see and will often comment about it when we are on the bus to swimming lessons. It has helped to raise their awareness of the problems litter can cause but not only that, it has empowered them to make positive changes to help the environment and to improve the area in which they live.”
