We’re delighted to announce that Keep Abergavenny Tidy (KAT) has received the Outstanding Achievement Award at this year’s Tidy Wales Awards. The group also took home the Cleaner Communities Award, sponsored by Helping Hand Environmental, in recognition of their exceptional dedication to keeping their town and surrounding areas clean and safe.
Since relaunching in 2019, Keep Abergavenny Tidy has gone from strength to strength. With over 60 active members collecting nearly 90 bags of litter each month, the group’s volunteers are a familiar and welcome sight across the town. From streets and parks to rivers and alleyways, KAT’s efforts help tackle litter hotspots, support Wales in Bloom, and enhance the local environment for everyone to enjoy.
Beyond the visible impact of their clean-up activities, KAT’s work fosters community pride, social connection and environmental awareness. By partnering with local councils, schools and community groups, they have built a strong network of volunteers who share a commitment to making Abergavenny a cleaner, more beautiful place to live.
On behalf of Helping Hand Environmental we would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Keep Abergavenny Tidy on winning the Cleaner Communities Award. This award is a well-deserved recognition of the group’s outstanding commitment, energy, and community spirit. From tackling litter hotspots and protecting the natural environment, to engaging with young people, supporting local events, and working hand-in-hand with councils and community partners, KAT has made a lasting impact on Abergavenny and the surrounding areas. As an extra thank-you for their efforts, Helping Hand Environmental presented the group with a new litter-picking trolley after the event, a practical gift to help them continue their fantastic work in keeping Abergavenny tidy.
We were astonished and amazed on winning both the Cleaner Communities and Outstanding Achievement Awards at the Tidy Wales Awards this year. Our gardening voucher and new trolley will be put to good use for the betterment of Abergavenny and neighbouring communities. Kathy HagueKeep Abergavenny Tidy volunteer
