Eco-Schools
A A A

We live in a world that is often dominated by ‘stuff’. We are encouraged to buy new stuff, use it, throw it away and then start again.

If we took inspiration from nature, we would make sure that we designed things and processes to not cause damage to our environment, last longer, be easy to repair and be simple to turn into something else when we have finished with it.

For this challenge you could consider:

  • Reducing single-use products
  • Food waste from farm to fork
  • The impact of clothing and textiles
  • Following the waste hierarchy to Reduce, Reuse and Repair before we Recycle
  • Finding a new use for a waste product
  • How renewable are the materials that our stuff is made from

Essential information for this challenge

You need to cover the following points in your video.

  • Introduce your school and your Earthshot and why you chose the Build a Waste-Free World challenge.
  • Share your school-based solution – what have you done or plan to do and why?
  • How has it made a difference or how will you know if it has made a difference?
  • Share your global innovative solution, the research behind it and what impact you would hope it can make.
  • Any other information that you want to include that is relevant for the judges.

Remember to be creative with your video and try to ‘sell’ your idea!

Videos should be shot in landscape and be no longer than three minutes.

Entries are welcome in English and Welsh, and we can accept up to five entries per school. The deadline is 18.00 on Friday 10 April.
